This October trail series explores Slovenia's distinctive karst landscape near the Italian border, starting from the Peace Monument on Cerje hill. Four distances (12km, 16km, 28km, and 44km) wind through characteristic rocky hilltops and narrow singletrack paths, with the longer courses climbing up to 1,868 metres over terrain that demands careful footing. Routes pass through quiet villages like Renče and Miren, where a medieval castle watches over the valley, before looping back through scenic karst trails. The descents over loose limestone can be technical, particularly on the historic horseback trail near Železna vrata (Iron Gates). Trail poles are recommended for the longer distances, and runners should be comfortable with sustained climbing and uneven ground.
