Ultra X 110 Madeira takes runners across this Atlantic island's dramatic volcanic terrain over two demanding days. The 60-kilometre stage kicks off early Saturday morning from Machico, tackling 3,680 metres of elevation gain through ancient laurel forests and along rugged coastal paths. Technical trails wind past levadas (traditional irrigation channels), cross exposed mountain ridges, and open up to sweeping ocean views. A 50-kilometre stage follows on Sunday, starting from São Vicente on the north coast. With its significant climbing and challenging terrain, this is one for experienced trail runners ready to test themselves against Madeira's wild landscape. The late October timing brings cooler temperatures and the possibility of dramatic Atlantic weather rolling across the peaks.
