The Trails & Tarmac Backyard Ultra takes place in the Black Mountains near Crickhowell, following the classic last-person-standing format. Runners tackle a 4.2-mile loop every hour, on the hour, continuing until only one remains. The course mixes trail and road with one gradual climb and a brief steep section, keeping most of it fast and runnable. It's a mental game as much as a physical one, requiring careful pacing and strategic rest between loops. Hot food appears from loop five onwards to help sustain efforts through the long hours. Those completing 32 miles earn an ultra medal, while the ultimate trophy goes to whoever outlasts everyone else. This event suits experienced ultrarunners comfortable with the unique demands of backyard racing.
