The Trail du Cirque du Fer à Cheval explores the distinctive landscape around Arbois, set in Jura wine country. Five distances from 11km to 85km traverse vineyards, forests, and rolling hills, with longer routes venturing onto exposed ridgelines. The 85km ultra gains 3,361 metres over varied terrain — a substantial challenge for experienced runners. Mid-distance options of 22km, 33km, and 46km offer progression through increasingly technical ground, while the 11km provides an accessible entry point with 380 metres of climbing. March timing brings fresh spring conditions to these eastern French trails, though weather can shift quickly in the season. The courses showcase a quieter side of trail running, away from Alpine crowds.
