The Trail dos Morcegos winds through the volcanic heart of São Miguel island, taking runners across the dramatic Serra Devassa plateau and into the technical trails near Sete Cidades. The routes range from a 53km ultra through volcanic landscapes and coastal views, down to shorter options including an 18km sprint and a 6.5km walk. The terrain reflects the island's wild character — lush Atlantic forest, rocky technical sections, and the constant presence of crater lakes. Four race distances cater to different ambitions, while a kids' route keeps it inclusive. This September event captures what makes the Azores special for trail running: remote beauty, varied terrain, and that distinct island atmosphere.
