About this event

The Slate Trail Ultra follows the historic Snowdonia Slate Trail through North Wales, tracing a route steeped in industrial heritage. Runners pass abandoned quarries and remnants of the region's slate-mining past, traversing landscapes that once supplied roofing worldwide. The course offers two demanding distances: 88 kilometres with 2,700 metres of climbing, or the full 145-kilometre route gaining 3,900 metres. The terrain alternates between old slate paths, exposed ridges, and technical descents, requiring solid mountain running experience and confident navigation. November timing adds complexity, with shorter daylight and changeable mountain conditions testing both physical preparation and mental resilience. This is serious mountain running for experienced ultra runners.
