The Sintra Trail Cruz Alta takes runners into the forested mountains above one of Portugal's most storied towns. Set in a UNESCO World Heritage landscape where woodland trails wind past historic palaces, the race offers two routes: 12 kilometres with 550 metres of climbing, or 20 kilometres with 750 metres of ascent. Both courses explore the distinctive terrain that has drawn travellers to Sintra for centuries — shaded paths through dense forest, glimpses of ornate quintas, and the kind of atmospheric setting that feels lifted from a fairy tale. Organised by the Municipality of Sintra, this November event suits intermediate runners looking for moderate elevation and the chance to discover why these hills have captivated visitors since long before trail running existed.
