Pisao Extreme lives up to its name with four distances that test climbers at every level. The flagship 83km route tackles over 7,200 metres of elevation through the mountains around São Pedro do Sul in central Portugal, while the 40km still packs in nearly 3,500 metres of ascent. Even the shorter options demand respect — the 24km covers 1,726 metres of climbing, and the 11km entry point brings 670 metres of vertical. Held in early October when autumn colours begin to sweep through these Portuguese highlands, the event attracts runners ready for steep, technical terrain. The climbs are relentless, the descents require concentration, and the experience is uncompromising — trail running in its most demanding form.
