The Grand Raid Réunion stands among the world's most legendary ultra trail races, crossing the wild volcanic landscapes of Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean. Starting from Saint Pierre, runners traverse deep ravines, ancient calderas, and lush tropical forests across four distances ranging from 54 to 180 kilometres. The flagship 180-kilometre course — La Diagonale des Fous — climbs nearly 10,000 metres across the island's dramatic terrain, while the shorter options of 106, 74, and 54 kilometres each present their own formidable challenges through this UNESCO World Heritage landscape. The race demands serious mountain experience, with technical descents and sustained climbs testing even seasoned ultra runners. What draws people back is the unique island setting where volcanic peaks meet tropical vegetation, creating an otherworldly running experience found nowhere else.
