Essex Way Ultra

The Essex Way Ultra follows the complete 82-mile Essex Way trail from Epping tube station to Harwich's High Lighthouse on the North Sea coast. This point-to-point journey crosses the heart of Essex, weaving through ancient woodlands, rolling farmland, and historic market towns. With 859 metres of elevation spread across 132 kilometres, the route offers a surprisingly varied landscape for a county often overlooked by trail runners. The challenge lies less in technical terrain and more in the sustained distance and mental fortitude required to complete this long summer day. Starting from the edge of London and finishing at the port, runners experience a genuine sense of journey as the countryside gradually opens toward the sea.
