The Douro Ultra Trail explores Portugal's legendary wine valley, where terraced vineyards cascade down to the winding river below. Three distances traverse this UNESCO World Heritage landscape: a 28-kilometre route with nearly 1,000 metres of climbing introduces the region's dramatic terrain, while the 52-kilometre option doubles both the distance and elevation. The 101-kilometre course presents a serious challenge with over 5,000 metres of ascent through ancient quintas, stone villages, and vine-covered hillsides. October brings comfortable temperatures and autumn colours to the valley. Trails weave between technical sections and river viewpoints, capturing the rugged beauty of northern Portugal's most celebrated wine region.
