The Chester Ultra takes runners on an 82-kilometre journey through Cheshire's varied landscapes. Starting from the historic city, the route follows the River Dee before heading onto the North Cheshire Way and Sandstone Trail. Runners pass landmarks like the Old Dee Bridge and Chester Racecourse, climb Helsby Hill, and traverse woodland through Delamere Forest. With 744 metres of elevation gain spread across riverside paths, forest trails, and rolling countryside, the course offers a good mix of terrain. Six checkpoints provide support along this well-marked route through northwest England's trail network — a solid choice for experienced ultrarunners seeking a late-winter challenge.
