The Dukeries offers two demanding distances through Nottinghamshire's historic heartland, starting deep in Sherwood Forest. Runners follow forest trails and footpaths past grand estates and sandstone villages, with the route weaving through Clumber Park, skirting the Welbeck Estate, and passing the dramatic gorge of Cresswell Crags. The 40-mile option includes a visit to the legendary Major Oak before returning through the forest. The terrain mixes wooded trails with open farmland, creating a varied challenge that rewards both endurance and navigation skills. This is a proper trail ultra through lesser-known corners of England's historical landscape, best suited to runners comfortable with distance.
