The Trail des Fous Romains winds through the historic landscapes surrounding Vaison-la-Romaine, where ancient Roman ruins meet Provençal countryside. Runners can choose between two intermediate distances: the 25km Grand Fou with 1,100m of climbing, or the 15km Petit Fou with 550m of ascent. Both routes explore the rolling hills and valleys of the Vaucluse, where winter trail running offers crisp air and clear views across the vineyards and olive groves. The February timing means cooler conditions ideal for maintaining pace on the climbs, and the courses demand solid fitness without being extreme. It's a proper winter challenge in one of southern France's most atmospheric settings.
