The Trail des Combrailles explores the wild volcanic terrain of central France, with four distances welcoming everyone from first-timers to experienced mountain runners. The longer routes venture through the Sioule valley's biological reserve, crossing the dramatic Fades Viaduct and taking in sweeping views of the river's famous meanders from the Queuille overlook. Runners pass historic sites, traverse footbridges over the Sioule and Viouze rivers, and climb technical trails through forests and along reservoir edges. The terrain here is genuinely varied, with rocky paths and rolling woodland showcasing this lesser-known corner of the Massif Central. Even the shortest 8-kilometre loop offers proper trail character with 300 metres of climbing, making it an ideal event for anyone curious about moving beyond road running.
