Trail de Vulcain
About this event
The Trail de Vulcain explores the volcanic landscapes of the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage site near Volvic in central France. The 77km route climbs 2865 metres through ancient volcanic terrain, summiting nine peaks including the iconic Puy de Dôme. Runners traverse forests, lava fields, and crater rims with sweeping views across dormant volcanoes. The 48km option (1850m elevation gain) delivers serious climbing through the same dramatic scenery, while the 27km route (860m gain) offers a shorter introduction to the region's distinctive geology. March brings cool conditions to these high volcanic plateaus, making for challenging but rewarding running through one of France's most geologically fascinating trail networks.
