Swiss Irontrail

The Swiss Irontrail traces a spectacular loop through the Surses region, weaving between glacial valleys, alpine lakes, and ancient mountain passes. Starting from Savognin, runners climb through the unique moorlands of Alp Flix before reaching Fuorcla digl Leget — a geological boundary that once separated continents. The route passes Lunghin Pass, the Alps' only triple watershed where water flows toward three different seas, and crosses ancient Roman routes at Septimer Pass. The highest point reaches Uf da Flüe at 2,775 metres. Two challenging distances (57km with 3,822m elevation and 79km with 4,996m elevation) cover serious terrain through fragrant forests of spruce and stone pine, past the turquoise Marmorera reservoir, and across wildflower meadows. The technical terrain and sustained climbing demand solid mountain experience and navigation skills.
