Trail des Châteaux

The Trail des Châteaux winds through the historic hills around Sion, Switzerland's sunniest city, where medieval castles and ancient fortifications watch over the trails. Two distances tackle the dramatic terrain of the Valais: a 15km route with 700 metres of climbing for a solid challenge, and a 32km course that pushes experienced runners through 1800 metres of elevation gain. Set in mid-December, the event combines technical trails with cultural heritage and the distinctive atmosphere of winter running. The courses demand good fitness and trail experience, rewarding runners with sweeping views over the Rhône valley and snow-dusted Alpine peaks. A memorable way to close the trail season in one of Switzerland's most storied landscapes.
