The Maratona degli Ernici takes runners deep into the rugged Ernici Mountains of central Italy, starting from the historic town of Sora. This demanding 44-kilometre route follows ancient footpaths and exposed ridgelines, climbing over 3,500 metres through terrain where medieval villages perch on hillsides and views sweep across the Lazio countryside. The course requires solid technical skills and mountain fitness, rewarding experienced runners with the stark beauty of these lesser-known Apennine peaks.
