The Granfondo del Vulture takes runners into the volcanic landscape of Monte Vulture in southern Italy's Basilicata region. This trail event explores ancient forests, crater lakes, and rugged terrain shaped by the extinct volcano, with two challenging distance options. The 50km Lungo route offers a serious test with 1,750m of climbing through beech forests and past the twin crater lakes of Monticchio, while the 28km Corto provides a solid mountain challenge with 900m of elevation gain. Based in the historic town of Rionero in Vulture, this June event combines technical trails with the raw beauty of a lesser-known Italian mountain region, perfect for runners seeking something off the beaten path.
