The Granfondo Del Penice takes runners deep into the rugged Apennine mountains above Varzi, a medieval village in northern Italy's Oltrepò Pavese region. This is serious terrain for experienced trail runners, with two ultra-distance options winding through chestnut forests and across windswept ridges. The 141km Granfondo and 89km Mediofondo both demand strong navigation skills and mountain endurance. The remote trails offer solitude and raw alpine beauty, far from the crowded racing circuits. While the challenge is significant, runners finishing either distance earn their place among those who've tackled one of Italy's more demanding mountain courses. Best suited for those comfortable with long, technical days in the mountains.
