ElCid TrailXtrem presents a substantial mountain challenge in the rugged terrain around Petrel, in Spain's Alicante province. The single 67-kilometre route climbs 3,375 metres through marked trails that wind across the landscape, with runners facing both daylight and night sections. The 19-hour cutoff allows for different approaches — some push the pace while others settle into a rhythm that lets them take in the mountain scenery along the way. With that much elevation spread across the distance, this event rewards careful preparation and pacing rather than raw speed.
