Set in the Black Forest near Freiburg, XTrail Breitnau offers two well-crafted routes through classic Southern German woodland. The courses wind through the dramatic Ravenna Gorge, crossing wooden walkways and stone bridges before climbing through forest trails and open meadows. The 10-kilometre option, with 320 metres of climbing, provides a gentle introduction to trail running in this terrain. The 20-kilometre route adds more satisfying ascents, including a steep push up to Piketfelsen that rewards runners with forest views, totalling 841 metres of elevation. Starting and finishing in Breitnau village, with its mountain lodge atmosphere, the late-June event welcomes newcomers to Black Forest trail running without requiring technical experience.
