Wainwright's Pennine Journey North traces a legendary route through the wild heart of Northern England's backbone. Starting from Blanchland, this challenging event offers three distance options, all demanding serious mountain experience. The full 112-mile route follows in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright's classic traverse, crossing remote moorland, rugged peaks, and traditional Pennine valleys. A relay option allows teams to tackle the full distance together, while the 52-mile course provides a slightly shorter but equally demanding adventure. The terrain is unforgiving, with significant elevation and exposed conditions typical of the Pennines. This is trail running at its most raw and authentic, suited for experienced runners ready for a genuine mountain challenge in one of England's most characterful landscapes.
