The Trail des Sangliers brings runners to the rolling Ardennes forests around Houffalize, where wild boar still roam the dense woodlands. This March event offers four challenging distances through Belgium's rugged heartland, with technical single track and punchy climbs that test stamina on muddy spring terrain. The 57km route tackles over 2,300 meters of elevation, while the 26km and 15km options provide a solid taste of Ardennes trail running without the full ultra commitment. Expect proper forest trails, variable weather, and the kind of honest climbing that makes the Belgian Ardennes a favorite training ground for serious trail runners.
