Spreewald Marathon

The Spreewald Marathon unfolds across the peaceful waterways and forest trails of a UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve in eastern Germany. Now in its 24th year, this well-established event offers both marathon and half marathon distances, winding through the distinctive landscape of canals, meadows, and woodlands that define the Spreewald region. The course is flat and scenic, supported by aid stations every 5 kilometers and a team of over 550 volunteers. Runners finish to a quirky local tradition: Spreewald pickles at the finish line. The event takes place over a festival weekend that also includes cycling and inline skating races, creating a festive atmosphere across the host towns of Burg, Lübbenau, and Straupitz. It's a solid choice for road runners looking to explore a lesser-known corner of Germany while enjoying strong community support.
