Sfakia Sky Marathon

The Sfakia Sky Marathon takes runners on a dramatic journey through Crete's White Mountains, beginning uniquely from a ferry boat at sea level in the harbour of Loutro. The 44-kilometre route climbs through rugged terrain to Pachnes peak at 2,454 metres — the highest point in the range — where runners are rewarded with views across more than 55 peaks rising above 2,000 metres. The course traverses the heart of what locals call 'Madara,' passing traditional stone mitata where shepherds still make cheese, before finishing in Anopoli Sfakion. With 3,042 metres of elevation gain, this is a serious mountain challenge showcasing the wild beauty of southern Crete, from the Libyan Sea to the seemingly endless sea of peaks stretching north.
