The Pistoia-Abetone Ultramarathon takes runners from the medieval heart of Pistoia up through the Tuscan Apennines to the mountain resort of Abetone. The full 50km route is a serious vertical challenge, climbing steadily through forests and mountain villages, while the 30km option to San Marcello offers a taste of the same terrain. Both distances come in competitive and non-competitive formats, making it accessible for those wanting to simply complete the journey without racing. There's also a 20km walk from San Marcello to Abetone. World Athletics-certified and offering UTMB qualifier points, this is a well-organized mountain event with proper safety protocols. The Tuscan setting and the climb from historic streets to alpine meadows make it a memorable course for experienced trail runners.
