Pennine Barrier
About this event
The Pennine Barrier follows 79 kilometres through the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, connecting three of the region's most distinctive peaks. The route starts in Malham village and passes the dramatic limestone amphitheatre of Malham Cove before climbing onto the high moorland. Runners traverse Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough — Yorkshire's famous trio — while crossing remote valleys, windswept ridges, and rushing waterfalls. With 2,384 metres of ascent spread across rugged, exposed terrain, this demands strong hill-running ability and confident navigation. The course showcases the Dales' characteristic mix of limestone pavements, open moorland, and deep valley systems. Checkpoints provide support, though long sections require self-sufficiency. Scheduled for early May, runners can expect varied spring conditions on these high northern hills.
