Ötscher Trail

The Ötscher Trail takes runners into Austria's dramatic limestone country, exploring the Ötschergräben gorge — often called Austria's Grand Canyon — where narrow passages wind between rock walls and past tumbling waterfalls. Three distances offer different ways to experience this wild terrain: a 16km route with 940 metres of climbing, a 23km with nearly 2000 metres, and a demanding 51km that summits Kleiner Ötscher before descending through forest and meadow back to Lackenhof. The courses mix smooth forest roads with technical singletrack, requiring confident mountain running skills across sustained climbs. Despite being just 90 minutes from Vienna, the landscape feels genuinely remote, capturing the alpine character of Lower Austria's highest peaks.
