MTC (Mount To Coast) Severn Challenge
About this event
The MTC Severn Challenge traces Britain's longest riverside path across five consecutive days, covering 220 miles from the Cambrian Mountains to the Severn Estuary. With a 26% finisher rate, this multi-day ultra demands serious experience and stamina. Each stage—ranging from 42km to 95km—brings different terrain: forested uplands, river crossings, overgrown footpaths, and eventually historic riverside towns. Recent editions now offer hotel accommodation between stages instead of camping, giving runners proper recovery time. The atmosphere balances quiet determination with strong camaraderie among a small, focused field. Those who complete all five stages earn individual medals that piece together into a map of the route—a fitting memento of following the Severn from its mountain source to the sea.
