This point-to-point mountain marathon traverses the Mourne Mountains, summiting Slieve Donard — Northern Ireland's highest peak at 850 metres — along the way. Starting in Rostrevor, runners follow the rugged Mourne Way through ancient forests, open mountain tracks, and remote valleys before climbing into the High Mournes. The 42-kilometre course mixes runnable forest trails with serious mountain terrain and nearly 2000 metres of ascent, including exposed high-altitude sections that make this one of Ireland's most demanding marathon-distance mountain races. The route finishes in Newcastle, rewarding those who complete it with sweeping views across the Irish Sea, granite peaks, and the wild landscapes that define the Mournes.
