MBNA Chester Marathon
About this event
The MBNA Chester Marathon stands out as the UK's only marathon that crosses an international border, weaving from England into Wales and back again. The fast, traffic-free course takes runners past Chester's historic Roman Walls, Cathedral, and ancient Amphitheatre before rolling through the countryside of Cheshire and North Wales, finishing alongside the River Dee. With 19 miles in England and 7 in Wales, the route attracts runners chasing personal bests and championship qualifying times. The event also offers a shorter Metric Marathon option at 26.2km for those building toward the full distance. Strong community support lines the route, and the finish brings together bespoke medals, technical race shirts, and post-race celebrations that make the crossing worthwhile.
