Generoso Trail

The Generoso Trail is a pure mountain ascent from Mendrisio to the 1,704-metre summit of Monte Generoso. This 12-kilometre climb packs in 1,437 metres of vertical gain, making it a serious test for experienced trail runners who enjoy sustained uphill effort. After a brief stretch through town, the route quickly enters forested mountain trails that rise steadily through alpine terrain. The reward at the top is spectacular: runners finish at the Stone Flower, Mario Botta's striking architectural landmark, with sweeping views over the Alps, Lake Lugano, and the Po Valley. The race includes both running and walking categories, plus a canicross option for those who want to tackle the climb with their dog. A celebratory lunch and awards ceremony at the summit terrace round out the day.
