Vasaloppet is the world's oldest and largest cross-country ski race, tracing a legendary 90km route from Sälen to Mora through Dalarna's snowy forests and open valleys. First run in 1922, the race follows the path Gustav Vasa took in 1521 during his historic flight through the region, blending sport with Swedish heritage. Held annually on the first Sunday in March, it attracts tens of thousands of skiers who tackle the course using classic technique only. The event anchors Sweden's prestigious 'En Svensk Klassiker' challenge and forms part of the international Ski Classics series. Despite its massive scale, the race maintains exceptional standards for track quality and logistics. It's the centrepiece of Vasaloppet Winter Week, which also features shorter distances and relay races.
