Planica Ski Marathon

The Planica Ski Marathon brings cross-country skiers to Slovenia's Julian Alps for a day of racing on groomed tracks at the renowned Planica Nordic Centre. The event offers distances from 5km up to a full marathon, all using the skate technique on rolling terrain that's never too steep. Families can start young ones on the 300m Kekec Race, while newer skiers might try the 5km or 10km options. The longer distances wind through snowy forests and open valleys near Kranjska Gora, with the Alps rising dramatically on all sides. The venue has hosted World Cup events, so the grooming and facilities are top-notch, but the atmosphere stays relaxed and friendly for recreational skiers.
