Myvatn Marathon

The Mývatn Marathon takes runners through Iceland's otherworldly landscape on the last weekend of May. The routes wind past volcanic craters and the shores of Lake Mývatn, where geothermal springs steam against a backdrop of stark lava fields. Three distances cater to different levels, from a scenic 10km to the full marathon. The location feels remote and wild, yet the atmosphere stays welcoming. After crossing the finish line, runners can soak tired muscles in the Mývatn Nature Baths, included with entry. It's a road event that feels like an adventure, set in a corner of Iceland that doesn't quite look like anywhere else on earth.
