Il-Ġirja t'Għawdex by Run Gozo

Il-Ġirja t'Għawdex holds a special place as Malta's original road race, running since 1977 from the village of Xaghra. What began with 35 runners has evolved into a celebration drawing over 1,000 participants to the island of Gozo each spring. The event caters to every level, from the half-marathon exploring Gozo's rural roads to family-friendly 2km routes perfect for introducing young runners to the sport. Several walking options make it accessible for those who prefer a gentler pace. Organized by the dedicated team at Xaghra Youth Centre, this long-standing event offers a chance to experience Gozo's landscapes while being part of Malta's running heritage.
