The Europe Marathon in Aveiro has earned its place among the continent's most respected road races, holding an official World Athletics Road Race Label since 2023. The flat, fast course winds through Aveiro's charming canal-lined streets, past Art Nouveau architecture and lively waterfront scenes. With distances from 5km to the full marathon, it attracts everyone from casual walkers to elite runners chasing qualifying times. The 2024 edition saw sub-2:10 finishes, including one of Portugal's fastest-ever marathons. The course's sea-level elevation and April timing create ideal racing conditions, while the city's maritime character and historic center offer runners a distinctly Portuguese backdrop.
