Arctic Marathon

The Arctic Marathon starts from Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, right on the Arctic Circle. The 42-kilometre course weaves through semi-urban sections and coniferous forest trails, with runners occasionally crossing frozen rivers — a quintessentially Lapland experience. With just 155 metres of elevation gain, the terrain remains relatively gentle, though the April timing means snow and ice are still very much part of the challenge. Beyond the race itself, the event offers a full Arctic immersion: husky sled excursions, evening northern lights viewing, and accommodation in traditional bungalows complete with saunas. It's a rare chance to combine trail running with authentic Finnish wilderness culture in one of Europe's most atmospheric settings.
