Alexander the Great Marathon
About this event
The Alexander the Great Marathon follows the historic route from Pella, birthplace of the ancient king, to Thessaloniki. This AIMS-certified race has attracted runners since 2006 with its reputation as a fast, PB-friendly course. The marathon unfolds along a mostly flat, direct path through open countryside and small villages, with long straightaways that help maintain steady pacing. While the scenery through rural Macedonia is understated, the race is well-organized with regular hydration stations throughout. The atmosphere builds as runners approach Thessaloniki, where local supporters gather near the finish. Shorter distances include a 10K and 5K, both suitable for those new to road racing.
